On Saturday at least 10 illegal miners emerged from the mine shaft.

Speaking to eNCA reporter Bafedile Moerane one of the miners who had resurfaced explained the current situation of the miners that remain underground.
“There has been no food for the past two months we have been surviving off water and salt…” the miner said.
Scores of illegal miners remain underground.
Plans to retrieve them from the abandoned mine continue.
